Vacant lot to finally see new construction take place . A three-storey commercial building, on the long-vacant site once occupied by a gas station and the Riders Pub, got approval from Langley Township council on Monday, Oct. 21.

The council voted unanimously for the development permit for Lynterra Developments to build the new structure on the southwest corner at the intersection of 208 Street and 42 Avenue, near the George Preston Recreation Centre.
A 43,900 square foot building is planned, in a boomerang shape across the 1.1 acre site.
The council's main concern was what kind of trees will be planted on the currently treeless site. The site plan said that 33 trees will be planted around the parking lot and near the building.
Councillor Michael Pratt made an amendment that as many of the trees as possible be coniferous. Brookswood is known for its coniferous trees.
Staff advised that in a few places, deciduous trees might be necessary, because the roots of different kinds of trees can create issues with nearby structures.
Coun. Steve Ferguson noted that neighbours of the site have been waiting for something to happen there for a long time, and that this development permit was a step in the right direction.
With the amendment about trees, the permit was approved unanimously.
The new development is a three-story commercial building with one level of underground parking. The building has been planned to support a grocery store, some additional ground level retail, 2nd floor offices with the 3rd floor dedicated to daycare facilities with the roof being the outdoor play area for the daycares.
The developers hope to bring to life this prominent corner lot that has sat vacant for close to a decade.
